The publication, As Recorded by the Phonograph, is the result of a three-yer international project which was designed to process all of the sound recordings from phonograph cylinders that are preserved in the holdings of the Brno branch of the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. They are recordings of Slovak and Moravian songs made by Leoš Janáček, Františka Kyselková and Hynek Bím between 1909 and 1912. Part One includes a collection of specialised studies and reports which evaluate the material from different angles, mainly from historical, ethnomusicological and technical points of view. Part Two presents transcriptions of spoken and sung texts. Part Three brings together a collection of three compact discs with processed recordings and a data disc featuring other text, sound and pictorial documents.
